Aims of Moving School 21
The participants of this interdisciplinary seminar will be working in the following academic fields: pedagogy (primary school), architecture, environment, city development, health promotion. Their actual research work is attached to the central topic of the seminar:
Promotion of health and wellfare of children and youth who live in industrial cities and agglomerated spaces, by programmes and means of urban planning to improve the conditions for a healthy development such as:
moving school, health promotion, physical- and moving education, participative planning of urban places for games and plays, playgrounds, schoolyards.
Intensive Programm of Moving School 21, Berlin 2003
The students will prepare presentations at their home - universities, will present and discuss them during the interdisciplinary seminar in multinational work groups. Further more students will study selected local projects in schools, city administrations and in urban places of the city where the seminar(s) will take place. The results will be presented in the plenum of the seminar and discussed with local experts.
The students will also gain further information about the programmes for health promotion in primary schools, the teacher training system of the host country, guidelines for child and youth orientated city developments, strategies of paticipative urban planning.
Working methods
Following the principle of learning by research. The students will be encouraged to analyse the projects under special aspects of their faculties and to present an evaluation report at the end or at follow-up of the seminar. The results of the students studies, their evaluation of the local projects and the results or proposals of the seminar plenary are contributing towards „education for sustainability„ in the sense of the agenda 21.
As education for the developement of a sustainable environment is therefore linked to action research and participation in the process of urban planning. The Seminar Moving School 21 is promoting general political and democratic learning.

Participants of Moving School 21 in Berlin 2003
Participants are students and staff of pedagogy (Teacher Education), architecture and urban planning from universities in Italy (Venice), the Tchech Republic (Prag), the UK (Bath) and Germany (Berlin).
The places of the seminaries will be changed according to the participating countries.
The seminar is open for further interested universities.
